UNOOSA and MBRSC to transfer innovations from Bahrain and Nepal into space on the PHI-1 satellite

United Arab Emirates: The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), the United Arab Emirates, and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) announced two payloads of PHI-1 missiles. Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year at the 72nd International Astronautical Conference (IAC) held in Dubai, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center will jointly strive to accelerate and promote innovation in the space technology sector by expanding their support and knowledge to the world.

As part of the new announcement, PHI-1 will provide a 5U slot within the 12U modular setup of the National Space Science Agency of the Kingdom of Bahrain (NSSA) and Antarctica Pratistan Nepal aboard their new projects and test them in space with the necessary assistance.

The “Aman” payload developed by a team from Bahrain will test the Enhanced Advanced Encryption Standard, which is intended to secure communication between the satellite and the ground station. While the Danfe Space Mission in Nepal will study the operation of the PX4 Autopilot, an intermediary program for drones in space, focusing on how the system behaves and operates. Both winning payloads will provide hands-on experience, knowledge and skills to the teams and contribute to capacity building in space technology.

As part of the UNOOSA “Access to Space for All” initiative, PHI-1 will facilitate the ultimate goal of ensuring that no one is left behind on the path to space exploration and sustainable development on Earth.

About the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center
