The NFL is making two major adjustments to the AFC Playoffs after the owners voted Friday in favor of the proposals

The AFC playoffs will look a little different this year because the NFL’s 32 owners have voted to make two major postseason adjustments.

After making the decision Thursday night to cancel the Bills-Bengals game, the NFL also submitted two proposals to change the AFC playoffs and those proposals were officially voted on Friday.

Under the first proposal voted on, the AFC Championship will now be played in a neutral-site match if any of the following three scenarios are met:

  • Scenario 1: If Buffalo and Kansas City or both win in Week 18, the Buffalo vs. Kansas City championship game will be at a neutral site.
  • Scenario 2: if it was Invoices And heads Both lose in week 18 and win baltimore or win ties with Bengalsthen Buffalo’s championship game against Kansas City will be at a neutral site.
  • Scenario 3: If Buffalo and Kansas City both lose and Cincinnati beats Baltimore, it will be a Bills or Bengals championship game against the Chiefs at a neutral site.

If necessary, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will determine the location of the game.

The NFL also gives crows A chance to possibly host a wild card game even though Baltimore will finish second in the AFC North no matter what happens Sunday against the Bengals. Even if the Ravens win, that would put them 11-6, which would still be half a game behind Cincinnati, which would finish 11-5 with a loss.

Under this scenario, the Ravens would not win the division even though they swept the Bengals and had a better division record. To fix this problem, the owners accepted a motion calling for a coin flip to determine the host of a potential Bengals-Ravens wild card game. A coin flip will only happen if the following two scenarios are met:

1. The Ravens beat the Bengals on Sunday, and…
2. The two teams are scheduled to play each other in the wild card round.

With both proposals now approved, this means the Bengals may not host a wild card game despite their victory in the AFC North. Not surprisingly, the Bengals were the only team to vehemently oppose both proposals. Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn even sent out memo trying to get teams to vote against proposals, CBS Sports The NFL’s Jonathan Jones reported on Friday.

According to multiple reports, 25 owners voted yes — and 24 votes were needed.

Given the unprecedented nature of the situation, Goodell knew that not every team would be happy with the solution the NFL eventually came to.

“When we looked at the football schedule, our principles were to minimize disruptions across the league and to minimize competitive disparities,” Goodell said of why the two leagues made these two suggestions. “I realize that no solution is perfect. However, the proposal we ask the owner to consider addresses the most important potential just issues created by the difficult, but necessary, decision not to play the game under these exceptional circumstances.”

The circumstances to which Gödel refers is the one concerning Hamelin’s devastation. The Bills and Bengals played nearly nine minutes Monday night before the game was halted after the Bills safely went into cardiac arrest on the court. After receiving CPR, Hamlin was She was taken by ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical CenterHe was in critical condition for the past three days.

Although things looked dire when he was taken to the hospital on Monday, Hamlin has improved significantly over the past 24 hours with the Bills announcing on Friday that He is no longer on a breathing tube And that he even FaceTimed some of his Bills teammates.

“This has been a very difficult week,” Goodell said in a statement. “We continue to focus on Dummar Hamelin’s recovery and are encouraged by the improvements in his condition as well as the tremendous outpouring of support and care for Dummar and his family from across the country.”

With Hamlin’s health improving, the NFL finally sat down to figure out how to fix the AFC playoffs and the above proposals are the two solutions they came up with.
