CRN: Welcome everyone. you welcome in Acronis #CyberFit Summit Here in Miami. I’m Diana Blass from CRN. Human error remains a major cause of cyberattacks, and damages from ransomware are expected to reach $30 billion in 2023. Here to highlight this research and the tools to prevent these attacks is Candid Wuest from Acronis.

Candid Wuest, Vice President, Cybersecurity Research: Ransomware remains the most destructive threat we see today. Of course, this means that if you’re not protected, or you’re just saying, “I have backups,” that might not be enough because you need to know how quickly I can restore my backups, right? If it takes four days, you have backups, but that may not be good for your company. And of course, a lot of ransomware now steals data, so it gets into data leaks, data breaches, that’s why we also launched our data loss prevention product in this top.

CRN: Acronis Advanced DLP is fully integrated into the Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud. It extends the platform’s cybersecurity capabilities by preventing data leakage as data is shared between users and moves across systems. DLP is typically an expensive solution to deploy because it requires upfront work to identify sensitive information and then formulate disclosure rules. Acronis’ integrated approach has reduced this work for MSPs, many of whom have already seen the benefits of a unified platform.

creamer snuggs, [founder] of Cascade Technology says its customers haven’t experienced a breach in 365 days thanks to Acronis. Thank you for joining us.

Kramer snuggs: definitely.

CRN: And impressive.

snuggs: Thank you. Thank you.

CRN: So what is it about Acronis solutions that has truly prevented your customers from experiencing widespread breaches?

snuggs: I think it’s more about the one pane of glass that we keep talking about, where all of our solutions communicate back and forth with each other. So our antivirus and active protections communicate with our backup and disaster recovery platform. So I think just having universal access to the Acronis platform and the number of different functions that we have has greatly reduced the risk that we see today.

CRN: To underscore the value of the platform’s approach to cybersecurity, Acronis discussed research at the #CyberFit Summit on the vulnerable group of people.

West: We conducted a survey asking how many security solutions companies use in parallel, and 22 percent of the respondents were using more than 10 security solutions in parallel. So you have multiple vendors, multiple invoices, and maybe staff training as well. So there are a lot of things you need to do. Attackers only need one of those errors and they are there.

CRN: And they are ready to profit.

Brian Grayke, Director of Information and Cybersecurity, REDW: Every company we’ve talked to about being hacked or hacked loses anywhere from $60,000 to $80,000 to $100,000 or more, a million dollars. It is not unusual for a hacker to demand a payment of $1 million in bitcoin before they release the information.

CRN: Finally, as we look at the huge amount of money Acronis is getting now from investors and innovation with a number of patents, how will the technology continue to evolve? What directions will Acronis really invest in?

West: Oh, we have different threat patterns that we look at. Of course, there are also different ways, the Internet of Things, other than the Internet, there are many devices coming in the next few years that need to be protected. And on the other hand, of course, there is still a lot to be done for being faster on the Internet, which means that you can actually get your company back in a few hours, not just a few days. So we’re looking at all of those different things, some of which may be coming next year, some of which may be down for five years, but we want to be able to protect the things that you want to protect in the next five years.
